One down, three to go

Just a quick update with my progress on the butterflies piece. I now have one of the butterflies stitched and three to go!

Tantes Zolder - Butterflies

I'm really happy with how the colour is working in this piece. It's pretty and cheerful and I think it suits the design well!

That was fast!!

Wow, I guess I'm not as sneaky as I thought I was, lol!! Yes, the design is the butterflies from Tantes Zolder (My Aunt's Attic). Congratulations to Melanie...you were the first to guess correctly! And since Jennifer wasn't far behind, I've decided to give away two prizes!

Ladies, can you please email me your mailing addresses (mtrl_girl at yahoo dot ca)? I will get your prizes out in the next week or so.

Thanks for playing and thanks for the lovely comments!

Guess the new start

Okay, how about a challenge? It was so lovely outside on Saturday and I wanted to spend some time on the deck stitching but I didn't really have anything easy to work on. I went through my stash and found something new to start...can anyone guess what design it is?

New start

It's stitched on 32ct cream Belfast linen with Waterlilies silk floss in Peach Melba (both are my choice). I'll give you two clues:

1) A snippet of the chart is included in the picture
2) This is a freebie design

The first person to guess the design correctly will win a small (yet to be determined) prize! Just leave your guess in a comment (one guess per comment) along with your name. If no one has guessed correctly by 5pm MDT on June 21 I will reveal the answer.

Thanks to everyone who left a comment on my finished Petites Lettres Rouges!

I'm alive!

Wow, yet another unintended blogging break. I signed up at a local women's gym a couple of days after my last post and I'm happy to say I've made it there 3 times a week for the past 3 weeks. They've got some great classes and I'm enjoying them but it cuts into my evening time. There's also yardwork since it's summer so before I know it, my intentions to post a blog entry are replaced by intentions to go to bed!

Firstly, I must post an official thank-you to Sandra! I entered a draw on her blog and was the winner of a 13x18" piece of 32ct Butter Cream opalescent Belfast linen from Dyeing4U. It came late last week and Sandra also included some floss by House of Embroidery and Pearsall's. Both are new threads to me, particularly the thread from House of Embroidery. It has two skeins on the card...do you use both at the same time? There was also a postcard with a photo of the beach near where Sandra lives. Thank you so much again, Sandra!

Prize from Sandra

Next up is a small finish. I finally finished the Petites Lettres Rouges freebie sampler from the Blackbird Designs blog. It took a lot longer to stitch over-one on 32ct than I thought it would! I'm happy with how it turned out though. I stitched it in memory of my grandmother (who passed away almost 9 years ago) since she was thrilled that stitching was my hobby. She stitched her whole life, even when arthritis had crippled and twisted her fingers and hands. I remember her stitching using 6-strands of DMC floss over-four on 14ct fabric. I wish we could have lived closer to one another to more easily share our joy of stitching.

Stitched on 32ct Flax Belfast Linen one-over-one using Weeks Dye Works floss in Peacock. Started May 2009 and completed June 2009.

I haven't ever stitched a reproduction sampler so it was strange to notice the errors but leave them in there anyway! It wasn't until I was charting my grandmother's last name that I realized there was no "W" in the alphabet, lol!

Thank you all for your comments on my last post and for suggestions of what to use the silk perles for!
